Megan Mullally in In The MotherhoodThere aren’t many actresses out there that you could affectionately call a “broad,” but Megan Mullally’s one of them. Ever since she came on the scene a decade ago as the caustic and spoiled Karen Walker on Will & Grace, Mullally has shown that she can be bawdy with the best of them.

Now, after a foray into the talk show world and a turn as a disabled and ugly — but desirable — chief of medicine on Rob Corddry’s web series Children’s Hospital, Mullally is back on series TV, on ABC’s new comedy In The Motherhood (premiering Thursday at 8 PM ET), which was based on a web series that took episode ideas from submissions by real moms. In the series, Mullally plays Rosemary, a “bad ass,” as Mullally calls her, who has raised the perfect son even though she’s an imperfect mom.

In this quickie interview, Mullally talks about the new show, about a rumor that she was in a catfight with her co-star Cheryl Hines, about how Rosemary and Karen could be the new Odd Couple, and running her Kerry Weaver-esque Children’s Hospital character past Laura Innes.

Bob BarkerTelevision icon Bob Barker will be returning to the game show that made him famous for a cameo appearance on April 16 alongside regular host Drew Carey. The appearance is serving as a promotion for his upcoming autobiography Priceless Memories.

Granted, I haven’t watched the show since the 1970’s (although I hear Drew Carey is doing a good job), but I think his appearance is going to somewhat overshadow Carey (for example, the studio in which The Price Is Right is filmed is now called the Bob Barker Studio). There are a myriad of people who still associate Barker with that show. It would be like when Johnny Carson stopped by Letterman’s CBS show. As an analogy, who do people remember most as the host of Family Feud, Richard Dawson or Richard Karn?

More power to Barker for taking on a grueling schedule like a promotional tour at his age. Price-enthusiasts, mark your calendar.

George LopezI’m not sure if the world needs another talk show (though if Amy Sedaris were to host one I’d watch it, and I like Bonnie Hunt’s show), but we’re getting one: TBS has just signed George Lopez to host a late night show on the network.

The show (no title yet) will air Monday through Thursday at 11pm, and is described by Turner Entertainment President Steve Koonin as “an outdoor street party.” Koonin also says that the show won’t just be Lopez behind a desk “interviewing other old people.” I’m sure it will please Lopez to be thought of as “old.” He also says it’s going to be more like Arsenio Hall’s show, with live music, comedy acts and musical guests. Yeah, because that’s what’s missing on Letterman and Leno and Kimmel, live music, comedy acts, and musical guests. If he has a band, then it will truly be groundbreaking television. But I really liked Lopez’s sitcom, so more power to him.

The show premieres in November.

First up, there’s Ms. Cameron Diaz. After getting hitched to Ashton Kutcher in What Happens in Vegas, The Hollywood Reporter posts that the actress has grabbed her next romcom. The picture in question is called Swingles (picked up by Paramount in 2006), and it centers on a man and woman whose respective best friends fall in love and leave them without their beloved wingman and wingwoman. “Despite their antagonism, the two remaining singles decide to join forces to help each other find romantic partners.” …and oh, perhaps fall madly in love like romcom fools often do?

Meanwhile, Liv Tyler is getting her own slice of romantic comedy. Variety reports that she’s going to star in an upcoming indie called The Romantics. The project seems to be a bit of a passion project — Galt Niederhoffer (Prozac Nation adapter and a principal at Plum Pictures) is adapting her own novel, and planning to direct it as well.

The film will follow a group of college friends who reunite after 6 years for the wedding of Lila and Tom, which brings up a long rivaly for the soon-to-be groom between the bride-to-be and her maid of honor, Laura (Tyler). While the basic premise might knock into films like The Big Chill, the review over at Amazon doesn’t make it sound promising. Publisher’s Weekly says: “Neither the characters nor the story convince as Niederhoffer repeats thin stereotypes in a vain attempt to strengthen the plot.” It’s really too bad. Tyler can do better, and we already have enough thin stereotypes in romcom land. But get ready, two more typical romances on the way.

(S08E04) Dancing with the Stars heated up tonight. This is the first night where we got to see the opening, and I’m saddened that the disco ball openings are no more. The kaleidoscope is still there, but now the show attempts to take advantage of the widescreen. Although Tom mentioned that everyone had the same amount of time to practice, you have to think that the four weeks before the show started is an advantage for endurance and teamwork.

There was a three-way tie for first place tonight. If this week is the precursor of who the final three will be, Gilles, Shawn, and Melissa seem to have it in their hands. I can definitely see Lil Kim fight her way in there; her strength is definitely the Latin section. More information and analysis after the jump.

good morning & happy friday! hottie tennis player andy roddick was on the court yesterday - and was caught by paparazzi scratching & adjusting himself - it looks like quite the major itch down below (the combination of spandex and sweat can be totally lethal!) i wonder how he feels about his ex-girlfriend mandy moore and her new hubby rocker ryan adams? i always thought andy & mandy made an adorable couple (they went out for about two years) but obviously there won’t be a reconciliation anytime soon! andy certainly doesn’t need to worry - i’m sure there are plenty of ladies out there who wouldn’t mind helping him out with his itch! (i’d be willing to help out too) however he is off the market right now … supposedly he’s going to get married this spring to his girlfriend model brooklyn decker - let’s see whose marriage can last longer! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

Sometimes Hollywood is just plain mean. Cruel, and mean. When Katharine Heigl joined Ashton Kutcher’s upcoming action comedy Five Killers, it didn’t sound too promising. But now they had to add a cast that taps right into some of the most easily influenced parts of my nostalgia. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Tom Selleck, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Mull have joined.

The plot has been fleshed out as well. Rather than just be the random focus of assassins, Kutcher will play a successful hit man who gives up his job when he falls for a computer tech (Heigl) and gets hitched. But then he finds out that there’s a hit out on him, and he and the Mrs. have to go on the run.

If the trio who have just joined the cast were playing three of the presumed five killers, that would be sweet, but unfortunately their roles are much more typical — Selleck and O’Hara will play Heigl’s overprotective dad and adoring mom, while Mull takes on Holbrook, Kutcher’s handler.

Whether this is good or not, at the very least I hope it leads to more Mull on the big screen, and then a return of all those comic greats. It’s time Apatow had a showdown with the older comedic royalty.

LettermanI just checked the Weather Channel and it does indeed look like hell has frozen over.

After many years of dating his girlfriend Regina, not to mention having a baby boy with her, Late Show host David Letterman will reveal on tonight’s show that he got married to his longtime girlfriend Regina last Thursday in a courthouse in Montana.

This is big for Letterman. He was married once before but it didn’t go well, and he has always said that he made a mistake getting married (often apologizing to the woman he used to be married to) and that he didn’t want to ruin the good thing he had going with his girlfriend. Many guests, especially Julia Roberts, have made jokes with Letterman, wondering when he was going to make his girlfriend his wife. Looks like getting older puts these things into your mind. First the child, now the marriage. Hopefully retirement won’t be in the near future.

Something tells me that someone, somewhere has just lost a big bet.
