† FROM DJ PAUL V. What a crazy week for news it’s been! From the governor jetting off to Argentina for sex, to the heart-wrenching fight for democracy in Iran - it can be enough to make your head spin. Then there’s the news of the blogger whose name shan’t be spoken, who makes a living out of being heartless and cruel. Personally, I believe violence and causing physical harm to another person is always, always wrong. Yet I also believe in karma, if someone pokes a bee’s nest long enough with hurtful words and actions, they’re gonna get stung. So this week, DJ Earworm’s amazing mashup kind of says it all, with help from The Fray, The Police, Tupac, and a group I think is super talented - Black Eyed Peas. And maybe, just maybe - the “message” has finally been received loud and clear. Enjoy the video version below too!
† Listen to Heartless In A Bottle [.mp3 10mb] †
Enjoy - DJ Paul V.

good evening! last night was truly a magical one - i had the pleasure of seeing an evening with patti lupone and mandy patinkin at downtown los angeles’ ahmanson theatre - patti lupone and mandy patinkin were amazing - especially in combination with each other - both patti and mandy do happen to be tony award-winning stars of the stage - along with being true vocal powerhouses - i simply knew it was going to be an excellent show! i’ve seen each of them before on broadway … mr. patinkin in the wild party (he was nominated for a tony award) and ms. lupone in master class (which unfortunately she didn’t sing in but it was amazing nonetheless) but witnessing their chemistry together live - working with each other on stage was beyond tremendous (the two starred in the original broadway production of evita back in ‘79) the show is being billed as ‘a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical event with two legendary performers’ - i couldn’t agree more! the songs they picked were culled from a variety of musicals (thankfully there was a bunch of sondheim tunes) and i loved how the show flowed from song to song (check out the incredible setlist below) all of the selections worked so well together - all linked by common themes of love and relationships! there wasn’t a boring moment at all - and of course a big highlight for me was when patti took on don’t cry for me argentina and everything’s coming up roses (from gypsy) i was literally in pure musical theater ecstasy! the show is only playing through next tuesday - if you’re in LA and happen to be a broadway junkie like myself - you certainly cannot miss out on this! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

Guy Pearce just doesn’t do enough movies for my liking. It’s not as though he’s vanished, but he seems to maintain a fairly low profile every time he blows everyone away with a big, meaty part like L.A. Confidential or Memento. But he has a lot of great projects coming up (the most exciting of which has to be The Road), and he’s added a very intriguing one to his slate: the remake of 1973’s telepic Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pearce and Bailee Madison have joined Katie Holmes in Troy Nixey’s remake. It’s a fairly loose adaptation of the 1973 original, which was centered around a couple, Sally and Alex, who inherited an old mansion from Sally’s grandmother. Sally accidentally uncovers a hellish portal that allows a bunch of demons to escape and wreck bloody havoc. Naturally, no one believes her, and is convinced she’s having a nervous breakdown thanks to all that home repair. Because it was the 1970s, it didn’t even end well for Sally who just wanted a new fireplace. For those tired of seeing “remake” tacked onto everything, and for fans of the original, you’ll be happy to know that the new Dark isn’t so much a remake as a story “inspired by” those demonic creatures of old.

It sounded promising when Jason Lee was set to get Thicker back in 2008. Perhaps we’d finally get another taste at the old Lee, the one that made every Kevin Smith movie he graced all the tastier, especially when he’d rant away with all of his comedic snarkiness. He may have left that film, but Lee found an even better project to fill his now Earl-free days. Variety reports that he, along with Michelle Trachtenberg, have signed on for roles in A Couple of Dicks — Kevin Smith’s first project not written by his own pen.
The film, which stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, focuses on two cops who search for a stolen baseball card, rescue a sexy Mexican woman, and face gangsters. With the buddy cop roles long-filled, Lee won’t have much face time, but hopefully it will be quality face time. While Trachtenberg plays Willis’ daughter, Lee will play her stepfather.
At least it’s something. Not a lot, but a hell of a lot more interesting that the family fare that Lee keeps doing. That being said, and even loving Willis’ classic cop ways, I wish Lee was taking the role. Wouldn’t he make an excellent gruff detective? (If he can’t be the new Fletch, he could at least get a blockbuster buddy cop film! Willis and Morgan are already a far cry from the originally cast Robin Williams and James Gandolfini.)
But maybe better fare is on the horizon. What sort of starring role would you like to see Jason Lee take on?

Since Michael Jackson died two days ago, TV and radio stations have been busy with around the clock news coverage, specials about the King of Pop, and even non-stop playing of Jackson songs and videos. More special programming is planned this weekend, and AOL has a list of what we’ll see.
This morning at 10:30, E! will have the special Michael & Farrah: Lost Icons (good for them to include Farrah, whose death was overshadowed by bad timing). At 8 tonight (and Sunday), CNN will have Man in the Mirror, followed by a rerun of Larry King Live coverage and interviews about Jackson’s death. At 10, The Bio Channel will air Bio Remembers: Michael Jackson.

good morning! it looks like jennifer aniston might have finally found love - well according to the new STAR magazine anyway - she’s been linked to super hottie bradley cooper who she recently had a dinner date with over in NYC - i’m all for her dating bradley (don’t call him brad!) but i’m worried the magazine might actually jinx the relationship by splashing the supposed new romance across the cover - bradley must be seriously thinking - do i really want to be on the cover of the tabloids? jen obviously comes with a lot of gossip baggage! i think they’d make a great couple - i only have one issue (and it’s the same issue i had with kate hudson and owen wilson) i do think they look like brother and sister - although they would probably have beautiful babies! jen and bradley have really only been out on one official date - so i don’t think we can have them walking down the aisle just yet but this is one budding relationship to keep our eyes on! popbytes over & out for now … xoxo
Days after sharing a romantic dinner together at Il Cantinori restaurant in Manhattan, Star has the scoop on the budding romance, including how Jen’s been bubbling to pals that she’s just so into the breakout star of the mega-smash movie The Hangover! “Jen is really excited,” an insider says in our July 6 cover story. “She feels a connection to Bradley.”
That was clear during their June 18 dinner date. Throughout the three-hour meal, Jennifer, 30, and Bradley, 34, shared food and wine, laughed at one another’s jokes and acted like two kids falling in love. “I went over to say hi to them, and I noticed they were holding hands under the table because they let go to shake my hand,” an eyewitness at the exclusive restaurant tells Star. We’re one cast member away from seeing how Spider-Man fares in a true live-action world. Last December, we learned that Evan Rachel Wood would play Mary Jane in Julie Taymor’s Broadway web fest. Now Playbill is reiterating this, plus they’re adding another wonderful name to the mix: Alan Cumming. He is once again flitting around the world of geek fare by signing on to play Norman Osborn, known in other circles as the Green Goblin. (But no German accent this time.)
Now titled Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, the musical is supposed to be kicking off rehearsals this month. Yet while we now have the leading lady and villain, there’s still no word on who will play Peter Parker. Taymor was trying to get Jim Sturgess for the part and have a whole Across the Universe reunion, but they’re still not releasing whether it’s him or someone else.
But Wood and Cumming are just two of the many actors who have made their way to the theatrical stage. Right now, in New York alone, Anne Hathaway is performing Twelfth Night in the Park, Nathan Lane, Bill Irwin, John Goodman, and David Strathairn are currently Waiting for Godot, and Allison Janey is working 9 to 5 — just to name a few. On the other side of the country, Chris Pine and Chris Noth are getting presidential in LA with Farragut North.
