When Katie Couric was on The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week, Dave forgot to yell at her for taking Senator John McCain away from his show a couple of months ago to interview him at the same time he was supposed to be on Letterman’s show. The New York Post pointed this out in yesterday’s paper, so last night Dave agreed and decided to call Katie and ask her all about it on the air. The exchange is after the jump.
However, it’s not the only video from Dave and Katie. She has her own video channel on YouTube, where she uploads various behind the scenes videos on a regular basis, and she made one for the night that she was on the show. It features Couric in her dressing room and backstage, talking to various staff members, a Late Show producer, and other people before she went to the chair to talk to Dave.

Thanks Chef Michael Symon, but your services are no longer needed on Dinner: Impossible. Yes, he’s been given the pink slip because it seems the folks at Food Network realize that they may have acted a bit rashly when they changed chefs last April. The Food Network has rehired Robert Irvine and will reinstate him as the host of Dinner: Impossible.
Apparently, fudging his resume wasn’t quite the high crime and misdemeanor it was made out to be. In fact, the network’s dramatic reversal is proof positive that Dinner: Impossible has not been the same show with Chef Robert.
It’s easier to forgive Irvine for padding his credits — including facts like cooking for the Queen and preparing meals at the White House — than it was to find as charismatic a star to anchor the weekly show.

Just a couple of weeks ago, all was fine and dandy in Days of Our Lives-world. Or so it seemed. The big fan shindig at Universal in Hollywood seemed to signal that the status quo was holding that the lone NBC soap still in production would be able to use the 18-month renewal granted by NBC to climb in the ratings and return to past glory. Now comes the shocking news that NBC has fired Days of Our Lives’ two biggest stars, Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John). By the way, Deidre and Drake were at the fanfest. You think they knew the pink slips were on the way? Um, no.
This is all about money, folks, and instead of seeking other ways to trim costs, Executive Producer Ken Corday and company have used a hatchet and chopped off the top salaries. Don’t be shocked to hear that more is coming. That could be Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso — Bo and Hope — the other iconic romantic couple on the show, right after Marlena and John.

Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton has signed with ABC to star in a pilot for a new sitcom.
The series, titled The Middle, centers on a family in the Midwest, and Heaton will play the mom. I know, that’s a really generic description. I might as well say Heaton will play a human being in a comedy that will feature humor and talking.
Ricki Lake was originally cast in the role when the show was first developed a couple of years ago, but things changed later when the network wanted Heaton in the lead role and held the show until a deal with Heaton was finalized. That means the show has been on hold since even before Heaton starred in the short-lived FOX comedy Back To You with Kelsey Grammer. A lot of people thought that show would come back for a second season since it got OK reviews and had two big names attached. But FOX canceled it and now Heaton has a new job.

(S07E19) The big question coming into the results show this week, obviously, was who would make it through to the finals. That, on its own, was probably enough to get most of the crowd to tune in. The powers that be could have just banked on it and tossed any old random segment out there to fill up the first 50 minutes of the show. Some Jimmy Kimmel here… a highlight reel there… the numbers would have still been huge. Lucky for us, that’s not what they did, at all. It was the biggest musical event the show has ever seen. Along with those big results, we saw performances from Leona Lewis, John Legend, Julianne Hough, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. If that wasn’t enough, reigning champ Kristi Yamaguchi stopped by to dance. It made for a fun hour. The results, and a look at all of those performances, after the jump.

Hey, want to know something super-sad? For most of seventh grade, I came home every day from school and, before doing anything else, watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail from beginning to end. I also spent a great deal of middle school reading everything I could about the troupe, filling my brain with pointless trivia about Sam Peckinpah’s “Salad Days” and Spam.
This not only caused me to develop a type of hardcore social awkwardness that was extremely rare outside of the 70s and 80s, but forever instilled in me a deep love for Monty Python. Since the boys are very busy with their individual projects these days, it’s a thrill to see any new Python stuff to come around, even when it’s in the form of an extra-short YouTube clip and they’re never actually shown to be in the same room together.
